There are a lot of times when we as dog lovers hear stories that make our hearts break. And it usually magnifies the heartbreak when it concerns a senior dog. But thankfully, this story has a happy ending.
In November 2017, a 14-year old miniature poodle named Shey was dropped off at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. His family dropped him of there because (I know…this is horrible) his family was moving away and didn’t want to take him along.

Shey waited and waited at the shelter for a long, lonely four months for someone to pick him. He had never been neutered, so the staff had gotten him scheduled for vet care and surgery. He was also dealing with dental disease. In fact, it was so bad that only one of his teeth was not fully rotted.
With Shey being almost completely toothless, deaf, and partially blind…it’s needless to say that he wasn’t the first pup in line when people came to adopt a dog.
But that all changed one fatefully night when a young boy named Tristan came in with his family looking to adopt a dog. None of Shey’s issues seemed to matter to Tristan. They were looking for a small dog who loved to cuddle, and the shelter staff knew Shey would be a perfect match.
Jessica Jorgenson, digital content coordinator for the rescue noted, “Shey is super sweet and wants to be near people all the time.”
